London - Feminist academic Germaine Greer was "assaulted and held hostage" by a student who apparently developed a fixation for her while staying at her home, police said last night.
Inspt Bernie Tomsett, of Baintree police station, said Ms Greer was assaulted at her home in Great Chesterford, Essex, over the Easter Break. A 19-year-old woman had been and charged with actual bodily harm and unlawful imprisonment. She is due to appear before Harlow magistrates on May 4th, a police spokesman said.
Ms Greer (61), was brought up in Melbourne, Australia. She had one brief marriage in the 1960s to Paul Du Feu, which lasted for three weeks. She started her literary career on a magazine called Suck. She published her phenomenally successful book The Female Eunuch 30 years ago.
