A 26-year-old woman from Co Clare is due in court in Kilrush today charged in connection with an arson attack on a house in Shannon.

A man and three young children were rescued by gardai from the blaze at Purcell Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Seven-year-old twin boys, a three-year-old girl and their father were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. They were released after treatment.

The woman was arrested shortly after 8am yesterday and taken to Shannon Garda station.

She was charged last night with reckless endangerment contrary to Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 and arson contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act.
