A woman and her two children were killed in a crash involving a car and a lorry in Wexford last night.

A woman and her two children were killed in a crash involving a car and a lorry in Wexford last night.

The crash happened at Larkin's Cross on the N25, the main Wexford-New Ross Road, at approximately 8.30pm. The three victims all died at the scene, a fourth child was taken to hospital.

Wexford gardaí and two units of the fire brigade attended the crash and the bodies of the victims were cut out of their car. They were taken to Wexford General Hospital. The driver of the articulated lorry was uninjured.

Gardaí closed the road last night and put diversions in place. It is expected to remain closed until this morning.

A Garda spokesman said the scene had been preserved for technical examination and an investigation by the traffic accident investigation team would be carried out. He also said that driving conditions at the time of the crash were good and the road was dry.

The junction at Larkin's Cross has been the scene of crashes in the past.

Eight people were taken to Wexford General Hospital last Thursday following a collision between a minibus and car at the junction. The mini-bus was travelling from the direction of New Ross and collided with a car coming from Wexford.
