A woman and her four children escaped injury early this morning after an arson attack on their Co Tyrone home.

A woman and her four children escaped injury early this morning after an arson attack on their Co Tyrone home.

The malicious fire happened when a wheelie bin was pushed against the backdoor and set alight at the woman's house in Lismore Park in Sion Mills at about 1 a.m. today.

Neighbours helped to rescue the family before the Fire Service arrived and put out the fire.

The mother and her children were not injured and minor fire damage was caused to the rear door.

The Fire Service said the family were fortunate not to have been injured in the incident. Detectives in Strabane are investigating the attack and have appealed for information.
