Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to an incident in Dublin early this morning that left a moped driver in a critical condition in hospital.

The man (24) was discovered lying in the road at Ballycullen Drive in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 by a motorist at 2.30am.

His green, blue and grey moped was found nearby.

A Garda spokesman said injured man, who was apparently not wearing a helmet, was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Gardaí are asking anyonewho may have seen the moped and driver prior to the crash to contact them at Rathfarnham Garda station on 01 666 6500.
