Weather conditions have today eased across the country following snowfalls in recent days.
Earlier in the week, motorists were affected after temperatures fell as low as –3 around the country, with much of Munster, Connacht and the northwest affected by heavy snow.
According to Michael McAuliffe of Met Éireann, warmer weather today brought scattered showers of rain and hail, although he said there would be a risk of frost in many areas, with the potential for temperatures to fall to -1 tonight.
The frost will later clear amid cloudier weather and rain.
However, AA Roadwatch has warned drivers to take care over possible icy patches remaining. Some motorists are reporting today the Sally Gap in the Wicklow Mountains is impassable due to ice.
Ronan Gilligan of AA Roadwatch advised motorists to watch out for ice and avoid high ground and secondary roads if possible.
Tomorrow, it will be milder and brighter, with temperatures increasing to between 8 and 11 degrees. Friday night will start out dry, but southwest winds will push rain and drizzle eastwards across the country later on during the night.
