A protest involving a convoy of 50 trucks has been reduced to just 10 lorries with the agreement of gardaí and the drivers.

A protest involving a convoy of 50 trucks has been reduced to just 10 lorries with the agreement of gardaí and the drivers.

The convoy, which left Blessington this morning to converge on Dublin city centre in protest at Wicklow County Council's recently adopted measures aimed at controlling illegal dumping, was pulled over by gardaí at the Tallaght bypass to allow the early morning rush through.

The truckers say that Wicklow County Council's measures are interfering with their legitimate business.

Gardaí and the drivers reached an agreement to reduce the convoy to just 10 trucks to minimise the disruption to traffic in the city. Earlier, major traffic disruption occurred on the N81 with tailbacks of four to five miles.
