Rock star Pete Townshend of The Who was freed on police bail early today after being arrested on suspicion of child pornography offences.
"Mr Townshend has been interviewed this evening by police. He has not been charged with anything and has been bailed to a future date when he may be required to answer some questions," Mr Townshend's lawyer, Mr John Cohen, said in a statement.
"He is going home to get some rest. He is tired but all right," Mr Cohen added.
Townshend was driven away from the station shortly after midnight after being question for 80 minutes, Mr Cohen said.
Police confirmed Townshend's release but refused to say when the guitarist must return for questioning.
The musician, who has admitted paying to access an US website advertising child pornography for research purposes, was taken into custody late yesterday.
The 57-year-old was arrested under the Protection of Children Act 1978 on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, suspicion of making indecent images of children, and on suspicion of incitement to distribute indecent images of children.
In a statement released by Mr Townshend on Saturday, the rock star claimed that paedophilic images on the Internet left him feeling "shocked" and "angry".
He said that he accessed the website to help research his autobiography, adding he believes he was sexually abused as a young boy while in the care of his grandmother.
