The band received the honour of having a small part of Manhattan renamed in recognition of their musical achievements.

Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen were presented with signs emblazoned with U2 Way — the name that West 53rd Street will carry for a short period in homage to the band.

The four-piece are in the city for a week-long stint as the house band on the Late Showwith David Letterman.

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and City Council speaker Christine Quinn gave the band the street signs bearing their name at a ceremony.

Other musical nods include Duke Ellington Boulevard and Joey Ramone Place.

It also marks an irony, given the success the band had with the 1980s anthem Where the Streets Have No Name.

Bono said the band was honoured to be joining Manhattan’s musical map.
