Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine

May 15th-17th

The Kerrygold Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine is the first ever literary festival in Ireland dedicated to the celebration of food and wine. The inaugural event in 2013 brought 8000 people onto the grounds of Ballymaloe House and Cookery School, including national and international authors, chefs, foragers, educators, wine experts, gardeners, publishers, TV presenters, bloggers and journalists.

Galway Early Music festival

May 15-17th

The festival promotes the performance of ancient, medieval, renaissance and baroque music in Galway city and county. The festival features concerts by international and national musicians and dancers, workshops and master classes, and community and school involvement in music and heritage activities. It pits a special emphasis on exploring music and entertainment from Ireland and beyond.

National Drawing Day

Saturday, May 16th

Artist Donald Teskey will launch 'National Drawing Day' in the National Gallery of Ireland at 11am on Saturday, May 16th.

The programme in the National Gallery will kick off at 11am with drop-in life-drawing sessions for adults, led by professional artists.

In the afternoon families and children of all ages are invited to join in and create their own modern masterpiece from 3-4pm. Admission is free and no booking is necessary.

Over 170 museums, galleries, libraries and cultural centres are taking part in National Drawing Day around the country are providing drawing workshops and demonstrations for all age groups.

Barrow River Arts Festival - Carlow

The Barrow River Arts Festival is an international festival of classical and contemporary music, literature and visual art, which takes place in Borris House - one of Ireland's most beautiful stately homes.

This small and intimate festival offers imaginative programming with a relaxed, warm ambience, giving its audience the opportunity to experience the very best Irish performers working with artists of international renown.

Dublin County Choir

The Choir will host an evening with in the company of Joseph Haydn and Karl Jenkins in Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th. The choir will perform Haydn’s Maria Theresa Mass. Full details of the event can be found here.

Dark Daughter

A production of Dark Daughter by Soinbhe Lally will be staged at Rossnowlagh this weekend. It will showcase the account of the life of Finola O’Donnell for the first time since it was last staged at the Irish College in Louvain, Belgium seven years ago.
