Operating profits were £19.7 million sterling, up from £15.3 million last time.

However, first half pre-tax profits fell to £8.2 million from £16.2 million a year earlier.

Highlights of the half-year include the sale of the Wembley Complex for £48 million. The group disposed of its Keith Prowse offshoot for £5.6 million.

It has also sold its interest in The Beatles Story, WembleyTV and the retail operations of Wembley Ticketing for £500,000.

Sales for the half year to the end of June were £61.3 million, compared to £68.1 million last time.

The company's video lottery terminal operation at its Lincoln Park facility in Rhode Island in the US performed well in the first six months of 2002.

The interim dividend per share is being increased by 20 per cent to 6p.
