TWO PEOPLE died over the weekend following road traffic collisions in the west.
In Clare, a woman died at about 5am on Saturday when her car left the road and hit a tree on the northbound carriageway of the N18 at Hurler’s Cross, located between exits 6 and 7.
The woman, named locally as Aileen Page (36), was originally from Pallaskenry, Co Limerick, but she had been living in Raheen in Limerick city.
Ms Page, who was reported to have been pregnant, was just a few kilometres from where she worked at Shannon airport when the crash occurred.
In Galway, a man in his 30s died after he was struck by a car while walking along the R336 road just outside the village of Spiddal at approximately 1am on Saturday.
He has been named locally as Séamus Cooley from Cnocán Glas, Spiddal, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 50s died yesterday following a boating accident in Lough Mask in Co Mayo.
The man was fishing on the lake with two other men near Tourmakeady. It is understood the men got into difficulties in a sudden swell and all three fell into the water. Two of the men managed to swim to safety. The body of the other man was recovered and taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
