A new webiste designed to provide an outlet for unemployed people was launched in Dublin today.
The website - www.halfaloaf.ie - aims to provide a forum and outlet for unemployed people through discussions, blogs and the sharing of experiences and business ideas.
According to its founder, Tom O’Mahoney, the main role of the website is to allow the unemployed to discuss how they can take back control of their lives.
Mr O’Mahoney said the website will give unemployed people a chance to discuss business ideas, develop plans for micro-companies and avoid social isolation.
“For anyone who has lost their job the change in their lives is often huge and unexpected,” he said. “You switch from having to get on the road to work each morning to not having a reason to get out of bed.”
Mr O’Mahoney, who lost his job in a transport company in February, said he wanted to show unemployed people that they are not alone and bring back value to their time.
Fine Gael TD George Lee said the website could prove to be “a valuable tool” for unemployed people as connecting and engaging with others in a similar situation is very important.
