CYPRUS: UN weapons inspectors seeking Iraqi compliance with disarmament resolutions are to set up regional headquarters in Cyprus, the government has said.

Cyprus, broadly viewed as a neutral country in the Middle East, had been approached by the UN and the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency over creating an office on the island.

The UN human rights rapporteur for Iraq, Mr Andreas Mavrommatis, is a Cypriot who lives in Nicosia.
