Warplanes have begun a fresh assault on the Afghan capital Kabul this evening, releasing a number of bombs that shook the city, a witness said.
The explosions came in a single sequence along with the roar of the planes, the witness said.
At least seven waves of aircraft dropped bombs near the airport and other areas of the city.
Taliban gunners returned fire, and mobile anti-aircraft weapons could be heard moving about the darkened streets.
