Honiara - Warring ethnic militias in the Solomon Islands signed a much-delayed ceasefire agreement yesterday, paving the way for a possible end to 21 months of conflict.

The agreement, a precursor to full-scale peace talks next week, will go into force from tomorrow, said a spokesman for the Malaita Eagles Force (MEF) militia.
