Burglars claiming to be council workers checking water pressure are targeting homes, gardai warned today.

The bogus callers got into at least three houses in west Dublin over the weekend using the ruse, stealing property and cash.

The men, wearing South Dublin County Council high-visibility vests, claimed to be working for the council when calling at homes in Clondalkin and Ballyfermot.

They took cash from one home, property from another but made off empty-handed from a third house after being disturbed, according to a Garda spokesman.

Gardai have urged residents in the areas to be vigilant, and to contact South Dublin County Council if they have any doubts about a caller’s authenticity.
