Lahore - Riaz Basra, a key Pakistani extremist wanted in connection with several hundred sectarian murders was killed in a gunbattle with police commandos in the Punjab city of Sargodha yesterday, a senior police official said.

Police said Basra, who was founder of an underground extremist Sunni Muslim group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, was killed in an "encounter" with the antiterrorist police unit.
