Walkmans face sound limit

PARIS - France is set to pass legislation that will limit the maximum volume of Walkman cassette players to 100 decibels

PARIS - France is set to pass legislation that will limit the maximum volume of Walkman cassette players to 100 decibels. The restriction was tabled by the MP Mr Jean Pierre Cave, who is also an ear, nose and throat surgeon, and was framed as an amendment to a health and safety Bill.

The measure has been introduced after evidence compiled by doctors showed that listening to loud music through earphones is producing "a generation of deaf people".
