Pat Liddy has divided his book into twenty-four walks, some obvious (Georgian Dublin, Ulysses walk, etc) and some not so obvious (Oxmanstown, Griffith Avenue to Clontarf castle). Each walk is preceded by a summary which tells you where to start, where to finish, how long it will take, whether you should wear walking shoes, etc; there is also a section in each of the route summaries headed "refreshments", though the recommendations in these are eccentric, to say the least. Presumably the author would argue that his interest is primarily historical and cultural, and the text is certainly crammed with facts, if a little lacking in the sort of humorous observation for which Dubliners themselves are renowned. The book is illustrated by a mixture of Liddy's beautiful line drawings and lavish colour photographs, many of which are also the author's.
