GERMANY:THE WAGNER family feud over who should take the helm at the Bayreuth opera festival appears to have ended with the daughters of the current head agreeing to call a truce and share the role.
Wolfgang Wagner (88), grandson of composer Richard Wagner, has put forward his daughters, Katharina Wagner (29) and Eva Wagner-Pasquier (62), to take over from him.
Mr Wagner, who has for 57 years led the festival, has apparently submitted a letter to its board, saying he is ready to renounce his lifetime director's role.
The half-sisters originally planned to launch separate bids to take over from their father. Mr Wagner had given his backing to his younger daughter and had been estranged from Eva.
The family's reconciliation was said to have been prompted by the sudden death of Gudrun, Wolfgang's second wife and Katharina's mother, in November. - ( Guardian service )
