Manila - The Philippine vice-president yesterday joined the clamour for President Joseph Estrada to resign as more than 20,000 Filipinos marched in six cities urging he step down for alleged involvement in gambling scams.

Vice-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said the president should quit to prevent the economy from collapsing and that she was prepared to take over his job.
