LONDON - The British Tory MP Sir George Gardiner last night survived a deselection threat by Reignte constituency Conservatives with a vote of 311 in his favour to 206 against.

The Euro-sceptic MP had said he would resign if his constituency party had opposed him, leaving the Tories to fight a by election in which their one seat Commons majority would have been at risk.
