Businesses and members of the public were today urged to volunteer their services at the Special Olympics Ireland games in Belfast this summer.
Organisers used today's launch at the Waterfront Hall to make their plea for 5,500 volunteers.
Potential volunteers are requested to sign up early so they can receive the appropriate training ahead of the Games which start in June.
Local businesses were also asked to contribute to the budget. Donations are required to help feed athletes, provide medical facilities and transport.
Some £120,000 is needed to supply adequate transport while £10,000 is sought for medical supplies and the same figure again to meet security requirements.
Belfast's Odyssey Complex will host an opening ceremony on June 21st involving 2,000 athletes with learning disabilities, their families and around 500 coaches.
Athletes will then compete in 12 sports in venues across Belfast and Co. Antrim until June 25th.
Fergus Finlay, chairman of Special Olympics Ireland said: "Ever since the Special Olympic World Games were staged in Dublin, it has been our ambition to hold a very significant national event in Belfast for a number of reasons.
"Belfast is a vibrant city and has incredible sporting facilities. This is the most exciting event we have ever run and we are relying on the warmth, generosity and the commitment to sport of the people of Northern Ireland."
The Special Olympics World Games were held in Dublin in 2003.
