A LABOUR TD, Mr Declan Bree, has accused the Department of Justice of operating a policy of "selective discrimination" by refusing to issue a visa to a Cuban student.

Ms Suzet Pena de Sola intended to complete a master's degree at the European Peace University in Co Leitrim.

Mr Bree said the decision was an "outrageous" one which made no sense whatsoever". He has requested a meeting with the Minister for Justice.

A Fianna Fail TD, Mr Tom Kitt, also criticised the decision to deport two Ukrainian women and their three children who had sought asylum on the grounds that their government could not guarantee proper medical care for the seriously ill children.
