Paris - American biochemists have created a potential rival to Viagra as a treatment for impotence, according to November's issue of the US journal Nature Structural Biology. Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University synthesised a compound of boronic acid called ABH.

ABH inhibits an enzyme, arginase, which acts as a gatekeeper in the complex cascade of processes that occur during an erection, they found.
