An army bomb disposal team rendered safe a viable improvised explosive device which was thrown into a house in Drimnagh, Dublin last night.

The house and adjoining houses were evacuated by gardaí at about 9.15pm.

The device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion. It was confirmed as viable and has been handed over to gardaí for investigation.
