Moscow - The head of Russia's Orthodox Church has criticised Catholics and accused the Vatican of poaching believers in the former Soviet Union.

Patriarch Alexiy II accused Catholics of seeking converts in parts of the former Soviet Union including the Western Ukraine, where he said the Greek Catholic Church had "broken up" three Orthodox communities.
