The value of Irish exports decreased by 4 per cent in November, while imports rose by 6 per cent on the previous month, according to new figures published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

On an unadjusted basis, the value of exports in November 2009 fell by 14 per cent from November 2008, while the value of imports was down 18 per cent.

The figures reveal a significant drop in trade with the UK, with both exports and imports down. Goods exported to Great Britain decreased by 16 per cent, while goods imported fell by 32 per cent.

Comparison of the preliminary November 2009 to November 2008 data shows a drop in machinery and chemical exports to most destinations apart from an increase in chemicals to the UK.
