A Catholic woman who alleged religious discrimination against the Ulster Unionist Party has been appointed manager of the Unionist Information Office in London, which is sponsored by the UUP.

Ms Patricia Campbell, an Oxford graduate from CoAntrim, previously claimed that she had not been shortlisted for a UUP public relations job because she was a Catholic. Ms Campbell has now dropped the case, according to the UUP.

Ms Campbell will work alongside the PR consultant Mr David Burnside, director of the information office, and the UUP leader, Mr David Trimble.

Ms Campbell had been strongly critical of Mr Trimble. In an article in the Belfast Telegraph in January she said she was appalled that Mr Trimble had failed to make good his pledge to make the Union open to all.
