Baghdad - Iraq has protested to the UN at what it called an armed aggression by US troops on an Iraqi ferry, Iraqi newspapers said yesterday.

The newspapers quoted a letter by Iraq's UN envoy, Mr Mohammed Aldourim as saying US troops had stopped the ferry as it was sailing in Iraqi territorial waters on June 9th. Meanwhile, Ath-Thawra, an official Iraqi newspaper, said France will pay heavily for playing the role of "broker" to promote the US-backed British proposal for "smart" sanctions.
