A US soldier has been killed in a mortar attack on a US military base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
A US military spokesman said the mortar had hit the headquarters of the 101st Airborne Division in one of former dictator Saddam Hussein's palaces. One Iraqi working at the base suffered minor injuries.
