US authorities have released copies of three letters sent in envelopes with anthrax in an effort to identify who was behind the attacks.
The move follows the confirmation yesterday that two Washington postal workers had died from anthrax and the discovery of traces of anthrax at a military facility that screens all mail bound for the White House.
Two of the letters appeared to be identical and all three contained anti-American and anti-Israeli messages.
The notes, written in capital letters to NBC television news host Mr Tom Brokaw and the editor of the New York Postnewspaper, warned recipients to "Take penacilin (sic) now".
"Death to America", "Death to Israel" and "Allah is Great" were written on each.
The envelope that contained the New York Postletter was written in the same sort of capital letters, slanted to the right, as two envelopes addressed to Mr Brokaw and Senate Majority Leader, Mr Tom Daschle, released earlier.
The letter to Mr Daschle contained seven lines written in capital letters similar to the other two. "You can not stop us. We have this anthrax. You die now. Are you afraid? Death to America. Death to Israel. Allah is great."
All three letters were dated September 11, the date of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
