New York - The United States and North Korea opened their first direct talks in five months yesterday, expected to deal with suspicions that Pyongyang has reactivated its nuclear capacity.

The talks come just days after a New York Times report that US intelligence had detected an underground complex where they believe Pyongyang is working to revive frozen nuclear weapons operations.
