The US military has denied that former Iraqi president  Saddam Hussein is on hunger strike.

The military said he was well and had eaten today. "These reports are absolutely untrue, Saddam has eaten today," Lieutenant-Colonel Barry Johnson told journalists.

Earlier a media report quoted a lawyer for Tareq Aziz, Saddam 's former deputy prime minister, as saying Saddam and several of his jailed allies had gone on hunger strike.
