Beijing - A US-based Chinese businessman has been detained and kept incommunicado in yet another case of the detention of an American citizen in China, writes Miriam Donohoe.

It was reported yesterday that Mr Liu Yaping was detained in Inner Mongolia on March 8th, initially on suspicion of commercial fraud but later in connection with "state secrets". His lawyer, Mr Jerome Cohen, claimed that Mr Yaping has a potentially life-threatening medical condition.
