The US administration has allocated €11

The US administration has allocated €11.5 million to the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) to fund economic and social schemes next year, it was confirmed today.

The chairman of the fund, Denis Rooney, welcomed the US budgetary resolution which allocated the money.

Speaking in Washington, he said: "The US contribution to the fund is a very real demonstration of American support for the peace process, particularly in the context of the heavy pressures on the US budget at this time."

"Through the work of the fund, the generosity and friendship of the American people would continue to build a legacy of lasting peace, reconciliation and mutual understanding between the different traditions throughout Ireland," he added.
