Samoa 60 Uruguay 13
Samoa opened their World Cup campaign with a 10-try demolition of a plucky Uruguay side today, the Pacific Islanders running out 47-point winners in their pool C match.
Centre Brian Lima, playing in his fourth World Cup, and flanker Maurie Fa'asavalu both grabbed two tries with wingers Sailosi Tagicakibau, Lome Fa'atau, Dominic Feaunati, prop Simon Lemalu, fullback Tanner Vili and lock Opeta Palepoi also crossing the Uruguayan line.
The South Americans, who conceded 12 tries when beaten 72-6 by South Africa in their opener, competed manfully up front but their defence was no match for the power and pace of the Samoan running in the loose.
Impressive number eight Rodrigo Capo and prop Pablo Lemoine, from a pushover, both scored tries for the Teros with captain Diego Aguirre adding three points from a penalty kick.
