A man tried to get out of a drink-driving conviction by filling his sample jug with water from a toilet, Swords District Court heard.

James Wolverson (22), of Foxhill Drive, Baldoyle, Co Dublin, was arrested for drink-driving at Malahide on May 27th. He was taken to Malahide Garda station where he opted to give a sample of urine. Instead, he filled the sample jug with water from the toilet bowl. Judge Sean Delap fined him £350 for failing to give a sample and £500 for scooping water from the toilet. He also disqualified him for two years and ordered him to re-sit his driving test.
