Many urinary tract infections are now showing resistance to common antibiotics, according to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study involved more than 4,000 women presenting with acute bladder infections. One in five patients had E coli strains resistant to the most commonly used antibiotics, such as ampicillin.
