Five people have been killed in a shooting spree at a California university.
A suspect in the attack at the the Christian university in Oakland has been detained, police officers said.
Police said the number of dead at Oikos University was at least five.
Officer Johnna Watson did not give any other details about the arrest.
She told reporters there were fatalities but she did not give a specific number.
"I can confirm that we do have one person who has been detained that we believe is possibly responsible for this shooting," she added.
Local television reports had earlier shown police evacuating Oikos students and loading them into a Swat vehicle as other armed officers took up positions around the school.
"One of the people who was inside the building, she was saying there is a crazy guy inside," witness Brian Snow told
KGO-TV. "She did say someone got shot in the chest right next to her before she got taken off in an ambulance."
A spokeswoman for Highland Memorial Hospital in Oakland said the facility was treating four shooting victims.
Oikos describes itself on its website as having been started to provide the "highest standard education with Christian value and inspiration."
