Unofficial action by bus drivers on the No 27 bus route yesterday left hundreds of schoolchildren stranded in the Darndale area of Dublin on the first day of the school year, Colman Cassidy reports.

Only three out of the 13 buses, out of Clontarf garage, which service the route from Clare Hall at the top of the Malahide Road through Darndale, Coolock and Artane to the city centre, were available.

Last night, a spokesman for Dublin Bus said it had received assurances the service would be back to normal today.
