Achievers in the fields of science, medicine, law, arts, commerce, engineering and food science are to be honoured by University College Cork when they receive Alumni Achievement Awards tonight.

Among those being honoured is poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill; New York based lawyer Aidan Synnott; Glen Dimplex chief executive Sean O'Driscoll; entrepreneur Dr James Mountjoy; Kerry Group deputy director Denis Cregan; the chief science adviser to the Government, Dr Barry McSweeney, and former president of the Royal College of Surgeons, Prof Barry O'Donnell.

UCC president Prof Gerard Wrixon said the recipients were graduates whose achievements "brought great honour to their alma mater".
