New York - The 15 members of the UN Security Council, with the Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, observed a minute of silence yesterday in tribute to Pierre Trudeau, Canada's former prime minister.

The president of the council, Mali ambassador, Mr Moctar Ouane, praised Mr Trudeau for his "deep dedication to the cause of international peace.
