The creator of the Ulster Way, a premier trekking walkway of 465 miles, has died. Mr Wilfrid M Capper (93), one of Northern Ireland's leading environmentalists, was a founder member of the Youth Hostel Association, and the Ulster Society for the Preservation of the Countryside.
As a young man he was involved in the purchase of Whitepark Bay, on the Antrim coastline, and its handing over to the National Trust.
Mr Capper also helped to establish the Belfast Boys' Club and the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs.
