Ulster 33 Glasgow 6
Ulster opened their Celtic League account with a comprehensive victory over Glasgow at Ravenhill tonight.
The 1999 Heineken Cup champions, who have reached the Celtic League semi-finals in the past two seasons, completely dominated possession and territory throughout this one-side contest.
The home side will have been disappointed not to have registered a four-try bonus point.
Ulster, having established a commanding 17-6 lead at the break, could only add three Adam Larkin penalties and a late converted Shane Stewart try in the second period despite playing the game almost entirely in the visitors' half.
Glasgow, who had racked up an impressive victory over Cardiff Blues last Friday, found themselves under pressure from the outset, with Ulster flanker Neil McMillan setting up an early penalty shot for Larkin but his effort was wide.
Ulster would not be denied when a break by Kieran Campbell created the opening for lock Rowan Frost to crash over for a fourth minute try which Larkin converted.
Stuart Moffat responded with a drop-goal for the visitors but, after Larkin and Moffat had then traded penalties, Ulster took control when captain Andy Ward was driven over from a close range line-out and Larkin added the conversion for a 17-6 lead at the break.
Larkin stretched the lead with a penalty in the first minute of the second half but, despite completely dominating possession, the home side found themselves increasingly frustrated at their inability to breach the visitors' defence.
Larkin knocked over two more penalties to make the game safe at the expense of setting up try-scoring opportunities before Stewart showed a neat side-step to complete the victory with Ulster's third try in the 77th minute.
