London - British immigration officials will be able to patrol French railway stations to prevent asylum-seekers entering the UK by Eurostar under an agreement signed yesterday by the Home Secretary, Mr Jack Straw.

French officials could also check passengers' documents at Waterloo in London and Ashford, Kent. British officials will be able to check passports and visas at Paris's Gare du Nord, and at Lille and Calais stations.
