Police in Britain have launched a murder inquiry after a young woman cyclist was stabbed to death following an argument with two women in a car in Liverpool.

The woman, who has not been named, died after being stabbed several times in the Anfield area at about 8.30pm last night, police said.

Witnesses told police the car, driven by a man, had pulled up alongside the cyclist and an argument broke out.

The cyclist, who was aged between 16 and 20, moved on but was followed by the car.

"It would appear that the two women got out of the car and the victim was attacked," police said.

"She suffered several stab wounds and died shortly afterwards."
