Tyrone 2-11 Dublin 0-6
There were no late reprieves for Dublin this afternoon as Tyrone swept to a comfortable 11 point victory in the All-Ireland Minor Football final replay at Breffni Park.
The Ulster champions dominated from start to finish in a one-sided contest, never allowing Dublin to settle into the free-flowing style they prefer, and Tyrone ran out convincing winners.
An injury-time goal from David O’Callaghan earned Dublin a second chance last Sunday but after letting the title slip so dramatically through their fingers, Tyrone emerged today determined to make amends.
The Ulster champions enjoyed a favourable breeze at their backs in the first-half and despite conceding the first point, Declan O’Mahony opening the scoring for Dublin, Tyrone were quickly on top.
Leo Meenan shone up front for Tyrone and with their midfield dominating, they went on to score six unanswered points and open up a five point lead. John Noonan pulled one back before the break for Dublin but they still faced an uphill struggle in the second half.
Tyrone emerged for the second-half just as determined and within two minutes had a goal to show for their efforts. Meenan, a constant thorn in Dublin’s side, managed to get his shot away in front of goal despite the attentions of the Dublin defence. His effort made it through a crowd of players to beat Copeland in the Dublin goal.
The win was then sealed by Martin Penrose whose hopeful shot beat Copeland once again to put his side out of sight. Dublin, their frustrations showing, were reduced to 14 players late on but by that stage it was all over and Tyrone, at the second time of asking, were champions.
