Two people were rescued from the Cooley Mountains, Co Louth yesterday after sustaining injuries in an international orienteering competition.

A 42-year-old Scottish woman suffered a suspected ankle fracture to her left leg and lacerations to her right arm and hand.

In a separate incident, a local woman in her 40s was found with suspected torn ligaments and calf injuries and exhibiting early signs of hypothermia. Both women were found in poor weather conditions by a Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue team and taken by ambulance to hospital.

On Saturday, a 76-year-old man was airlifted to hospital from Lugnaquillia mountain, Co Wicklow, with a suspected leg fracture.
